Mylands Traditional Wax Polishes are still manufactured to original recipes which are over 100 years old. They are formulated on the purest and hardest natural waxes available including Beeswax, Carnauba and Shellac Wax. With the exception of the Clear Wax they are all based on White Spirit and Pure Turpentine solvents. Multiple applications will give increased durability and deeper shine. In addition to their use on wood, lighter coloured waxes may be used on metal and stone.

Clear Wax:

Suitable for wooden furniture of all colours Clear Wax is based on beeswax and gives a deep wax shine with the minimum of effort.

Light Brown Wax:

A traditional light orange-brown wax – almost clear in colour, which is very popular with traditional restorers and is recommended by furniture teaching colleges.

Antique Mahogany Wax:

A traditional formulation of wax suited to mahogany and other warmer coloured timbers which is very popular with Antique Restorers. Not suitable for areas liable to come into contact with light coloured clothing.

Dark Oak Wax:

Similar in depth and application to Antique Mahogany Wax, but has a colder colour and is suitable for use on oak furniture.

Dark Patinating Wax:

A very dark brown, almost black, wax which has a high Carnauba content and produces an excellent patina which makes it useful for ageing and patinating antique and reproduction finishes.

White Wax:

A natural wax based on bleached beeswax which is almost colourless. Slow drying and easy to use.

White and Yellow Beeswax:

Formulated simply on beeswax and turpentine as has been done for centuries.

White Liming Wax:

Suitable for giving a ‘limed’ effect to finished furniture.

Application

For Antiques and Fine Furniture: Apply the wax with a clean white lint-free cloth and allow to dry. When dry, buff to a fine finish with a clean white lint-free cloth. Further applications may be made in the same manner and will give increased hardness and shine. For unsealed wood: For best results, seal the wood with a coat of Mylands Shellac Sanding Sealer applied by brush or rubber and allow to dry (approximately 30 minutes at 20°C). When dry, apply the wax polish using 0000 grade wire wool and allow to dry. When dry, buff with a clean dry lint-free cloth. Unsealed wood may be waxed without sealing, but this method will give a lower shine. For lacquered wood: Apply the wax with a clean white lint-free cloth and buff off almost immediately with a clean white lint-free cloth. Mylands Traditional Waxes can be used over virtually all interior wood finishes.

Drying times

As these waxes are formulated on White Spirit or Turpentine which are slow evaporating solvents, they are best allowed to dry overnight before buffing.

Coverage

Coverage will vary depending on whether the wax is used on bare or sealed timber and on number of applications used.
